Italeri plastic model kit – In 1980, during the Geneva Motor Show, the German car manufacturer from Ingolstadt presented its new two-door coup, the Audi Quattro. Produced throughout the 1980s, its Italian name highlights its main feature: four-wheel drive. At the time, four-wheel drive on a vehicle aimed at generating high sales figures was indeed an important innovation. The Quattro guaranteed good performance combined with excellent road holding on any type of surface. The longitudinal front engine was capable of delivering appreciable performance. A competition version was also created, which debuted in the World Rally Championship in 1981, achieving good results. The success of the Quattro continues to this day, so much so that the Italian name has become a true brand that identifies the entire latest range of Audis four-wheel-drive cars.

Tamiya plastic model kit – The Audi quattro played a major role in moving four-wheel drive vehicles away from being the exclusive domain of heavy off-road cars. It was one of the stars of the Geneva International Motor Show in 1980; while the body was similar to the Audi Coup, its flared fenders and spoilers front and rear hinted strongly at its high performance, but its full-time four-wheel drive was naturally the main talking point. Differentials at the front and rear were joined by a center differential in a setup that checked numerous boxes: smooth road driving; superior speed and cornering; and exceptional stability. Power was provided by a 2,144cc inline-five engine with a turbocharger and intercooler that output an impressive 200hp, while the front and rear had MacPherson strut suspension and disc brakes, which were a ventilated design at the front. In 1981 a rally version of the car debuted and took the global circuit by storm, winning multiple races and opening the door for other 4WD rally cars. Its influence was also felt in the road car arena, and while the car itself remains an ageless classic, the quattro name is also still used by Audi for its four-wheel drive system.
